INSTALLATION

Safety Volt low voltage swimming pool transformers are ETL tested and listed and are designed to conform with article 680 of the National Electrical Code.  All installations must be in accordance with national and local building codes.

The transformer case must be grounded. A grounding terminal is provided in the wiring compartment for grounding both the transformer and the light fixture.

Mount the transformer a minimum of one foot above ground or deck level. The wiring compartment must be pointed down to prevent water from entering the transformer.

All Safety Volt transformers have an internal, automatic, resetting circuit protector. In the event of a short circuit or overload, the protector will open and cut off power to the light fixture. The protector will reset itself in approximately 20 minutes and power will resume flowing. However, if the the short or overload remains in the circuit, the protector will reopen and cut off power to the light again.

Refer to voltage tap selection charts, for the wire size being used, to select the proper output voltage tap. Longer wire runs between the transformer and the light fixture will require the use of larger wire sizes and higher output voltage taps.

Step 1. Securely mount the transformer to a wall or post, making sure that there is adequate spacing for ventilation.

Step 2. Use the voltage tap selection charts to determine which output taps to use based on the size of your wire. Refer to the wiring diagram affixed to the inside of the wiring compartment cover and connect the input and output wires to the power source and light fixture.

For 100 watt and 300 watt  transformers use the blue and white wires for 12 volts output. Use the yellow and white wires for 13 volts output. Use the red and white wires for 14 volts output. Insulate any unused taps individually with wire nuts. NEVER CONNECT ANY UNUSED TAPS TOGETHER.

*The taps on 400 Watt models are wired in on the  primary/high voltage side of the transformer. Refer to the wiring instructions included with the transformer for specific instructions.

Step3. Connect the ground wires from the power source and the light fixture to the grounding connector located on the divider between the wiring compartments. NEVER OPERATE A SWIMMING POOL TRANSFORMER THAT IS NOT PROPERLY GROUNDED.

Step 4. Replace the wiring compartment cover and secure it with the screw provided.

We strongly recommend that swimming pool transformers be installed by licensed electricians. Should you have any questions or  problems with your installation, refer to the troubleshooting section of this site or call the factory service department at (800) 546-6766.
