HOW TO SELECT AN OUTPUT VOLTAGE TAP

SAFETY VOLT SWIMMING POOL TRANSFORMERS
ARE MANUFACTURED
WITH MODELS THAT HAVE 12 VOLT OUTPUTS AND MODELS
THAT HAVE MULTIPLE OUTPUTS OF 12, 13 AND 14 VOLTS. THE SIZE OF
THE WIRE USED TO CONNECT THE TRANSFORMER TO THE LIGHT FIXTURE AND
THE LENGTH OF THE WIRE RUN WILL DETERMINE WHICH OUTPUT VOLTAGE
SHOULD BE USED TO DELIVER A FULL 12 VOLTS TO THE LIGHT.
TO SELECT THE PROPER OUTPUT VOLTAGE ON A
MULTIPLE TAP UNIT, USE THE
VOLTAGE TAP SELECTION CHARTS FOR
THE WIRE SIZE BEING USED. SWIMMING POOL LIGHTS ARE
USUALLY INSTALLED WITH NO. 12, NO. 10 OR NO. 8 GAUGE
WIRE.
USING THE CHART FOR THE WIRE SIZE BEING USED,
FIND THE LOCATION ON THE CHART WHERE THE TOTAL LAMP WATTAGE COLUMN
AND THE DISTANCE TO LIGHT ROW INTERSECT. FOR EXAMPLE, IF THE
DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TRANSFORMER AND THE LIGHT FIXTURE IS 75 FEET
AND NUMBER 10 WIRE IS BEING USED, THE CHART SUGGESTS USING THE 13
VOLT OUTPUT TAP.
